Steven joined Southfield Capital in August 2009 to lead the formation of a new mezzanine fund and brings over a dozen years of mezzanine investing experience in the lower middle market. Most recently, he spent 8 years as a Managing Director at Calvert Street Capital Partners, where he co-founded and managed their mezzanine fund, which invested over $140 million in 23 companies. Prior to Calvert Street, Steven was a Partner at Canterbury Capital Partners, which managed two mezzanine funds totaling over $400 million. His experience also includes two years underwriting leveraged financings for LaSalle Business Credit, three years as a Manager with Ernst & Young’s Financial Advisory Services consulting group and three years as a C.P.A. at Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Axel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and Management from Columbia Business School. |
